Welcome to another episode of 🍩 Donut Waste Time, Save the Planet! 🌏

Today I’d like to share 4 simple steps on how to become more sustainable.

In this blogpost, we provide free tips on how to live more sustainably, how to recycle correctly and also answer all your waste and recycling-related questions.♻️

Which you can pop underneath this blogpost.👇

💁‍♀️ 4 simple ways to become more sustainable: (You can choose to 🎧 listen to the video below instead.)

🌱 1) Reduce food in plastic packaging

Australians throw away around 1.9 million tonnes of packaging each year – enough to fill the Melbourne Cricket Ground nine times over. Packaging takes a lot of energy, water and other natural resources to produce, and packaging waste pollutes our air, water and soil. (Source: Sustainability Victoria)

How to reduce your food packaging

You may try bringing your own container to your local supermarket or better yet farmers market.

You can avoid buying fruit and vegetables that are already prepacked and in plastic and BYO reusable bag.

You can also switch to more recyclable packaging like glass or steel. So instead of buying mayo in a plastic container buy it in a glass jar.

🌱 2) Shop at bulk food stores

Bulk stores are already avoiding some packaging by buying in bulk.

You can also bring your own containers, not just plastic, glass also, and get your food that way.

There’s plenty of those shops around. Examples would be Kakulas or Wasteless Pantry.

Search for your local store and pay them a visit. You’ll be surprised that they are actually quite affordable these days. Don’t forget to BYO jars and containers.

🌱 3) Bring a keepcup when you get a takeaway coffee

There are 2.7 million disposable and single-use cups ending up in landfill in Australia every single day. (Source: Sustainability Victoria)

So please get your keep cup!

And if your cafe doesn’t accept those for any reason go on the Responsible Cafes website and find one that actually cares about the environment and spend your money there.

Clean reusable BYO cups are allowed to be used where staff can do a ‘contactless pour’.

🌱 4) Reduce consumption of animal products

Meat and dairy specifically accounts for around 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).

How to reduce meat consumption

Maybe try finding some locally grown organic chicken or having a few vegetarian days in a week.
