Over the past year, I’ve been actively convening WA’s circular economy community — bringing together businesses, councils and practitioners to move from good ideas to real action. What’s become increasingly clear is that Western Australia has the strategy, the talent and the momentum, but is missing a dedicated role focused on connection, coordination and delivery.

Below is a proposed Senior Network Organiser – Circularity WA role. This role is designed to accelerate impact by linking government priorities with local circular businesses and community-led initiatives, reducing duplication and turning intent into outcomes. I’m keen to speak with organisations, partners or philanthropists interested in piloting or hosting this role and helping unlock the next phase of WA’s circular economy transition.

Senior Network Organiser – Circularity WA

Role

The Senior Network Organiser will play a key role in shaping and accelerating Western Australia’s transition to a circular, climate-resilient and clean economy. This role builds strong relationships with circular-economy champions across Perth and regional WA and connects government programs with local circular businesses. You’ll drive shared priorities, coordinate advocacy and grow a diverse network that helps WA reduce waste, cut emissions and shift to smarter resource use.

You’re a proactive operator with strong people skills who can bring partners together, make progress visible and make circular living accessible for Western Australians.

Responsibilities

Working independently with broad direction:

Network Strategy & Delivery

• Design, implement and maintain a WA Circular Economy Community Network Plan, aligned with the Beyond WAste 2030 Strategy and Roadmap.
• Build a strong pipeline of individuals, organisations and sectors committed to circular solutions, centred on Perth while actively engaging key regional areas across WA.
• Lead events, collaborations and advocacy activities that accelerate WA’s transition to a circular, clean and climate-resilient economy.
• Support and promote activities that advance priority areas such as reuse, repair, market development for recovered materials and community-led circular initiatives.

Circular Economy Outcomes

• Work upstream with businesses to prevent waste before it starts, advocating for reuse, repair and circular business models.
• Support the development of local markets for recovered and recycled materials, including pathways connected to government procurement and pilots.
• Make it easier for households and communities to participate in circular living through education, behaviour change and community programs.
• Collect and share data that supports government reporting, research and progress tracking.

Funding & Partnerships

• Develop and manage an annual budget.
• Support strong connections across WA agencies — DWER, EPA WA, Waste Authority WA, CCWA, WA:ERA, Energy Policy WA and others.
• Act as a bridge between government and circular-economy businesses, helping them access programs, grants, procurement opportunities and partnership pathways.
• Develop and assess proposals for re-granting funds to network members delivering circular-economy impact, ensuring alignment with priorities in the Beyond WAste 2030 Roadmap.

People & Culture

• Recruit, develop and supervise staff, contractors and volunteers as needed.
• Maintain positive, value-adding relationships with network members.
• Contribute to a healthy, safe and inclusive organisational culture.
• Some evening or weekend work may be required due to community-based activities
