DIY WORKSHOPS for interest groups, corporate clients and public

DIY PLASTIC-FREE DEODORANT
Duration: 1.5 hours
Participants will learn how to make their own sustainable, plastic-free deodorant. Perfect for a Christmas or birthday gift. Making your own deodorant not only saves money but also promotes better health for your body, reduces packaging waste, and the best part is that it actually works! This 1.5-hour hands-on workshop introduces the concept of homemade skincare products as a natural, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective alternative to purchasing pre-packaged products. The presentation includes an introduction to four additional products: spritzer, face mask, body cream, and coffee scrub. Participants will make and take home their own deodorant in a provided 30 ml tin.
Includes all other materials and a handout with a recipe.

DIY ECO-CLEANER & GREEN LIVING
Duration: 1.5 hours
Participants will learn to create a simple, effective multi-purpose cleaner or home spray while exploring what truly works against common viruses and bacteria. We’ll also discuss how toxic chemicals impact health and ways to improve home life through better air quality and thermal insulation. By adopting eco-friendly practices, participants can reduce their carbon footprint, lower utility bills, and create healthier, more comfortable living spaces. Each participant will take home a 500ml bottle of their DIY cleaner or spray, along with practical tools to make their homes more sustainable.

DIY COFFE BODY SCRUB
Duration: 1.5 hours
Participants will learn how to reuse coffee grounds to make their own divinely smelling body scrubs. Perfect as a sustainable gift or treat for themselves. This 1.5-hour hands-on workshop introduces the idea of homemade skincare products as a natural, environmental and cost-effective alternative to buying pre-packaged products. This workshop includes an engaging presentation about the materials used, good practices, and where to locally and sustainably source products. Participants take home one body scrub in their own jar. Presentation includes intro to another 4 products – spritzer, face mask, body cream, deodorant.

DIY ECO-PRODUCTS SHOWCASE
Duration: 1.5 hours
Participants will learn to create 10+ of homemade products, inspired by the simplicity and ease of making them. In order to eliminate toxins and packaging waste from their lifestyle, this 1.5-hour workshop introduces a wide range of homemade products as natural, eco-friendly, and cost-effective alternatives to store-bought items.
The workshop includes access to the full presentation with all recipes, plus guidance on where to buy materials, best practices, and how to sustainably make products using local ingredients. Products featured can include air freshener, dry shampoo, lip balm, massage oil, coffee scrub, face mask, plastic-free deodorant, body cream, spritzer, coffee oil and eco-cleaner.
Includes a take-home sample of one product plus access to the presentation with all recipes.

SALT & SCENT: DIY AROMATHERAPY
Duration: 1.5 hours
In this hands-on workshop, participants will choose to make one of two beautiful, personalised creations: a Himalayan salt diffuser that fills the home with natural scent — no toxins, no waste — or a luxurious aromatherapy bath salt jar, perfect as a gift for themselves or someone they love. Both options use simple, natural ingredients that are kind to the body, the wallet, and the planet — and they look and smell far better than anything you’d find in a gift shop. Along the way, participants will discover how easy (and satisfying) it is to swap store-bought wellness products for homemade ones — using ingredients that are better for their body, their budget, and the planet. Participants take home their chosen creation, along with a recipe handout and guidance on where to buy materials and how to make more at home.

ECO-BONANZA 5 (4+1 choice of hands-on DIY)
Duration: 1.5 hours
Design your own! Choose one main product for everyone to make on the day and take home, such as natural deodorant, lip balm, coffee scrub or eco-cleaner. The choice is yours! Alongside the hands-on making, you’ll also select four additional products to be introduced in the session. Participants will learn about their ingredients, benefits, and how to make them at home.

Sustainability got a bad rep. It can feel like living green is a premium lifestyle choice reserved for people who already have everything sorted. This workshop is designed to prove eco-living can save the planet and your wallet.

- How to access genuinely green options at every budget level — from free and low-cost swaps to longer-term investments like solar that pay for themselves over time
- Where to borrow, share, and swap instead of buy How to avoid greenwashing and spot the real deal

HOW TO TALK CLIMATE SO PEOPLE LISTEN

This practical, interactive session is designed for community members, volunteers and staff who want to engage others on climate change in a way that is positive, inclusive and actually effective.
Participants will learn how to talk about climate action without sounding forceful, overwhelming or “preachy”, and how to meet people where they are – not where we wish they were.
We’ll explore:
- Why people switch off when it comes to climate (and how to avoid it)
- How to frame climate action in a, non-judgemental way
- Simple language shifts that change the whole conversation
- How to engage at events and in the community without creating resistance

DONUT WASTED YOGA: A MINDFUL JOURNEY INTO SUSTAINABILITY
Duration: 1.5 hours
Since 2016, I’ve been teaching yoga to support health and mindfulness — a path that naturally awakens connection to Mother Earth and inspires more sustainable living. This workshop blends yoga, short meditation, and sustainability education to create an experience that nurtures both body and planet.
Over 1.5 hours, participants will move through a gentle but energising yoga flow while exploring themes of waste, consumption, and the circular economy. Each sequence becomes a mindful reminder that how we live and what we choose matters — on and off the mat.
This session is designed to attract those already on a mindful journey, or curious to deepen it, by weaving sustainability into their yogi lifestyle.
All levels of yoga experience are welcome, though a basic level of fitness is recommended.
Yogis will leave feeling refreshed, grounded, and inspired with new ways to align their practice with sustainable values.

FROM CLIMATE ANXIETY TO CLIMATE ACTION

Climate change news can feel overwhelming, leaving many of us anxious, paralysed, or even hopeless about the future. This workshop opens up a safe space to acknowledge those feelings and learn how to move beyond them.
Through reflective discussion and interactive activities, participants will: Explore what climate anxiety is and why it’s a natural response. Learn tools to reframe despair into constructive action.
Discover examples of communities turning worry into positive change. Create personal strategies to stay engaged, resilient, and hopeful.

This beginner-friendly workshop is designed for people who want to better understand what climate change actually is, why it’s happening, and what it really means for our communities.
We’ll break down the science in a simple, accessible way and explore the key drivers, impacts and misconceptions around climate change – without the overwhelm.

CLIMATE IS EVERYONE’S JOB

This session is for people who care about the climate crisis and want to do something meaningful, but aren’t sure where to start — or how to start from where they already are.

HOW TO RECYCLE LIKE A BOSS
Duration: 1.5 hours (in person)
An interactive workshop where we not only talk rubbish but also physically sort out commonly used items. We will cover what happens to each residential bin and where the rubbish goes. (Tailored to your local council area.)
This 1.5 hour session includes hands-on sorting session of common waste items, packaging and the biggest contaminators like nappies and soft plastic.
We will cover product stewardship schemes such as Containers for Change and NTCRS and other local options like TerraCycle and Officeworks. Our emphasis will be on Avoid, Reduce, Reuse and then know exactly how to Recycle as a last resource.

ORGANIC WASTE: HOW AND WHY TO COMPOST IT
Duration: 1.5 hours (in person or online)
Australia possesses some of the most depleted soils globally, despite approximately 40% of the average household bin being comprised of organic (food) waste.
During this workshop, participants will gain insight into the significance of diverting organic waste from landfills.
Our aim is to provide practical guidance on setting up an alternative composting bin, even for those on a budget. Additionally, we will explore alternative solutions, such as worm farms and bokashi, catering to individuals who may lack a garden or dedicated space.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will be equipped with knowledge and options to effectively manage their organic waste, fostering a more sustainable approach to waste management in their households.

As a Corporate Sustainability Specialist for a global company experienced in carbon reporting and ESG, I will guide attendees through practical steps to assess current practices, identify improvement areas, and set achievable goals.

ABOUT FACILITATOR
Sharka Hornakova – Circular Economy Creator, Behaviour Change Advocate, Workshop Facilitator & Speaker

I’m WA’s most relatable waste and sustainability educator. My journey began in 2018 as The e-waste girl, and after working as a council waste educator, I founded Donut Waste. I hold a Diploma in Sustainable Living, am a Future-Fit advisor, and have completed advanced training in circular economy and carbon accounting.
Through my social enterprise, I’ve diverted tonnes from landfill and created jobs for people with disabilities. Since 2021, I’ve delivered 100+ workshops to communities, corporations, and councils, and founded the Circular Economy Meetups in Perth to spark collaboration and innovation.
My mission is to inspire others with down-to-earth, engaging workshops that make sustainability easy, relatable, and actionable. I share my story to show that our individual impact is greater than we think.
